Personal Retreat
I am looking to go on a short personal retreat this weekend but will be honest and say I am nervous. Focusing my attention, especially when taking a SLOW BREAK, is very, very difficult. I do not desire to waste the time.
Have you ever taken a retreat? What have you done? What have you read? Do you have any suggestions for me?

It's really hard for me to quiet my mind, too, whether on a personal retreat or just having my morning quiet time. One thing that helps is to have a blank notebook by my side at all times (on a personal retreat) so that you can write down what comes into your head that you really aren't needing or wanting to think about in that moment...like, "I need to get those shirts at the dry cleaners and don't forget to send so and so a birthday card tomorrow, etc." You can just write it down and put it out of your mind.
Also, I'm including a link (hopefully you'll be able to pull it up) to some personal retreat forms Carolyn Mahaney posted on their blog a while back for when she takes a p.r. I've taken them with me but never used them b/c I was lazy (or in my first trimester and too tired to do much more than sleep). Anyway...here is the link. Maybe these will help.

If you can't open them, let me know and I'll see if I can direct you to them some other way!

I'm both jealous and inspired. I can't speak from experience (don't know that I've ever taken a p.r) but I agree w/ Bri--a journal is a must. I would take a short list of things you have been putting off listening more to God about, and things you want to ask Him about in the stillness. I would also take one devotional book and maybe something you've been wanting to work on creatively with your hands, voice, etc. Just wouldn't START with the creative stuff lest I got distracted (easy for me). I would take a tote of healthy and maybe not-so-healthy (?) snacks and a little cooler of drinks including sparkling cider. I would also take nail polish, foot scrub and stuff to pamper myself in the bath. Boy, can you give me this list back soon with a big BUG in Paul's ear along with it??? It's sounding mighty good right now.

When I went to the Rodgers that one weekend to be alone, I set up guidelines prior. For me, no tv or phone or computer because those would be things that I could waste time on. I also kept a list prior of things on my heart, so I could spend time praying and searching Scriptures about those things. Being the structured one that I am (wink wink) I organized my days so that there was periods of time just devoted to praying, time devoted to Scripture, time devoted to biblical teaching through other books. My breaks allowed me to go running, prayer walks, write cards to people etc.
I was nervous as well about having a whole weekend alone since you know how well I deal with that! But God really met me and clearly spoke that weekend. I pray the same for you my friend!
